There she was; the princess in the yellow gown, blue eyes that sparkled and short, chocolate brown hair. The girl I loved, yet, could not dare speak to.
She and Princess Peach were sitting at the royal table, chatting with the guests of the party and eating mushroom soup. Mario sat down next to me with a bowl of pasta salad and sighed. "I'm pretty sure mama taught us not to stare at people." he joked. Naturally, I would've ignored him, but he had a point. I was gawking at the princess. "I know its hard not to resist; they're both beautiful, gorgeous, breathtaking princesses. But face it; we're plumbers, not princes. We don't stand a chance."
"News flash; we're the only other humans in the kingdom. Do you think that they would marry a toad?" I asked, nibbling on a roll.
"If he had some royal blood, yes. I think they would." Mario replied.
"Great; a toad is more dateable than I am." I mumbled.
"Look on the bright side, Luigi; you're taller than me. It gives you more of a chance to get a girl."
he added.
"But you've saved Princess Peach dozens of times while I've done nothing but cower." I complained. Mario wiped his mouth with a napkin.
"Which one do you like again?"
"The one in the yellow gown."  Mario rubbed his chin and smirked.
"That's Daisy; the princess I saved from that Tatanga guy. She's a nice girl; why don't you go talk to her?" I shook my head violently. "C'mon Weegee. If you wanna get the girl, you gotta talk to her first." I wiped the sweat off of my brow and sighed.
"I'm going to get some cider." I mumbled. I pushed out my chair, carefully placed my napkin next to my plate and headed for the refreshment table. The one thing I hated about these Mushroom Parties was that everyone was with somebody . All the toads would be swirling and twirling while I (and sometimes my brother) just sat at the table and watched. Princess Peach never danced; she would much rather wander around and talk to random guests.
I picked up the ladle and poured some cider into my cup. I turned around and bumped into a girl who was standing too close behind me. The drink spilled all over her dress and I gasped. Stunned, I stumbled back to the table to grab some napkins. "I'm s-so s-s-sorry, I didn't m-mean to.." I stuttered. The girl stopped me and gently took the napkin from my hands.
"It's alright." she murmured. I glanced up to see Princess Daisy staring at me. Great I thought. Not only did you ruin a dress, you ruined a princess' dress . She smiled brightly at me and offered her hand. "Hi, I'm Daisy." I took her hand and stared at it, unsure if I should kiss it or not.
  "I'm L-luigi." I replied, bowing my head.
"Peach told me all about you. So you're Mario's brother; that must be pretty sweet having a cool brother like him." Daisy said.
  "Sure." I muttered, shrugging.
"Are you still worrying about the dress?" She giggled. "It's fine, really. I have a ketchup stain on here somewhere." She pointed to a red blob by her knee. "Found it!!" I chuckled and shoved my hands in my pockets.
"Would you like to dance?" I asked, timid.
"I'd love to! Peach is so boring, I swear she never shuts up." Daisy agreed.
"Same with Mario. I guess it's something they have in common." I joked. Daisy linked arms with me as we walked down to the dance floor. There were plenty of toads waltzing around the room. Daisy snorted.
"Ugh, we need some excitement around here!" she shouted.
"Is there a jukebox around here?" I asked.
"Over there. Let's go see if there are actually records in there." Taking my hand, she dragged me over to the other side of the room and began dropping coins into the slot. "See any good songs?" I scanned the music list and shrugged.
"There's Footloose, Safety Dance, Thriller, Cotton-Eye Joe…" I mumbled. Daisy sighed.
"What number is Cotton-Eye Joe?" she asked.
"Two-oh-three." I answered. She angrily punched in the numbers and a fiddle with a techno beat filled the room. The toads stopped in their tracks and cheered, showing off their dance moves.
"C'mon, let's have some fun before Peach or Toadsworth ruin it." We took on the dance floor and danced away. Daisy taught me the moves to the song as the others cheered us on. "You've got some nice moves, Luigi." Daisy said, smiling. Feeling comfortable, I spun around and did a split. Daisy's mouth dropped in amazement as I sprung back up to my feet. "Wow. You're a lot more interesting than Peach made you out to be."
"There's a lot that her highness doesn't know about me." I said, smirking. She smiled back, pointing down at my pants.
"Just so you know, your pants decided to do a split of its own." she said, giggling. Blushing, I took a glance at my pants and sure enough, they were ripped at the crotch. I covered it up with my hands, blushing even harder and excused myself. "Wait a minute; there's a sewing machine around here somewhere. I'm sure if we find Toadette, she'll give you a spare pair and fix these for you." Daisy suggested.
"That sounds fine, but I don't want anyone seeing this." I mumbled. Still grinning, Daisy rolled her eyes and grabbed my wrist.
"Stop being a coward. Just c'mon." Walking through the crowd, we found Toadette in the kitchen covered in flour and pulling a huge cake out of the oven.
"I hate these parties; I'm never paid enough." Toadette muttered to herself.
"Hey Toadette," Daisy hollered. "Could you do us a quick favor?"  Toadette spun around, dusted off her hands and placed them on her hips. "Luigi accidentally ripped his pants and needs them to be fixed. Would you be willing to sew it back together?"
"No problem!" Toadette said, giving us thumbs up. "It may be a while 'cause I have one more cake to finish, plus, I have to warm up the sewing machine." Daisy gave me a look, waiting for an answer.
"That's fine with me. Do you happen to have a spare pair of pants, by chance?" I replied.
"Sure." Toadette whistled using her two fingers and a younger female toad rushed in. "Miss T., could you find a spare pair of pants for Master Luigi here?" The girl nodded and ran off. She quickly came back, handing me a pair of pants almost identical to the ones I was wearing.
  "Thanks." I muttered.
"There's a changing room right around the corner." Toadette added. I nodded and followed her instructions, changing into the pants I was given. I left the room, laid the pants on a chair and followed Daisy into the garden. The light of the moon glittered off of the water droplets on the flowers.
"Shouldn't we get back to the party?" I asked. Daisy glanced over her shoulder, smirking evily.
"Nah. I want to sit in the garden for a little bit." she answered, gracefully taking a seat on a bench. She stared up at me, patting the tiny spot next to her. I gulped, pulled on the collar of my shirt and sat down. "Did you know that Mario and Peach are dating?" Almost like and animal, my ears perked up and I stared at her. "It didn't surprise me, really. But it made me a little jealous. She usually doesn't keep secrets from me."
  "How long?" I asked.
"A few months, I think." I pounded my fist into the bench.
"It makes me jealous too. Especially after he told me that he and I could never date anyone." I said, shaking my hand from the pain. "Mario always gets the girl." Daisy raised her eyebrow.
"Is that so? Hmph, Peach better be careful then." she teased. "Peach always gets her way, and it ticks me off. And it doesn't help that she's prettier than me and gets kidnapped all the time. Would it kill her to get some better security guards?!?" I laughed. Daisy scooted closer to me and placed her hand on top of mine. "I hope I'm not coming off too strong, but, you're pretty cool."
  "I am?" I asked, stunned.
"Yeah. That split you did back there, I bet even Mario couldn't do that. And I dunno, there's something about you that's sweeter and cuter than Mario." she said. "We should keep in touch…after the party." Shocked and amazed, I nodded. Daisy leaned forward, gently pressed her lips against mine and wrapped her arms around me. When she pulled away, she grinned. "Thanks for making tonight fun. It was one of the best parties I've been to." Speechless, I just continued to blush and smile. I laughed nervously as Daisy pursed her lips. I froze, locking eyes with her and kissed her. As the party behind us continued, we stayed in the garden, keeping each other company under the moonlight.

Well here you go. This is an example of what a one-shot from me would look like if you commissioned me. I don't really care for this story, I could've done better, but whatever. It provides a good example.

Awww that was so precious! Well-written and very sweet. Also really funny. Poor Luigi. I'd like to see Mario accidentally rip his pants in front of Peach. He deserves it. XD
